Mission & Vision
The Grove School is a public Montessori community that guides adolescents in their work of self-construction, as they become engaged and respectful world citizens.
The Grove School relies on the framework for adolescent education defined by Maria Montessori. At the core of her vision is the expectation that students will “pass from one stage of independence to a higher [one], by means of their own activity, through their own effort or will.” The Grove School’s unique, rich, safe, challenging, relevant and comprehensive program is valued as a vital part of Redlands heritage and legacy. All members of our community model respect and clear communication in order to foster collaboration and cooperation.

Post-secondary education
The Grove School Lottery will take place virtually on Wednesday, March 29, 2023 at 6pm. A livestream will take place at that time, and may be watched through the embedded video above or at the following link: https://youtube.com/live/xrjPDogqKF4?feature=share. Grove will contact all lottery participants’ families by mail with results and next steps.
In order to protect student information, the Grove School lottery drawing will be done by student number. The number assigned to your student(s) was emailed on either March 15 or March 16 from sandy.longman@thegroveschool.org.
If you can not find the email, please send an email to info@thegroveschool.org and include your students’ name and grade.
The results of the lottery will be sent out by letter in the mail by Friday, March 31. Results will not be given over the phone or email.
Grove School COVID-19 Procedures
The Grove School is committed to creating a safe and healthy environment, following guidance by governing health agencies for our region. This requires everyone to follow safety protocols and engage in hygienic behaviors, including staying home when not feeling well. Each day, please assess for symptoms of COVID-19 or other illness prior to leaving for school. Students who exhibit signs and symptoms of illness SHOULD BE KEPT HOME. A complete list of COVID-19 symptoms can be found on the San Bernardino County Department of Health website.
If your student is ill, tests positive for COVID, or is in close contact with a person who tests positive for COVID, please keep them home and inform the attendance desk by calling (909)798-7831 or emailing attendance@thegroveschool.org. We will work with families to make sure that we continue students’ education as smoothly as possible in the event of these situations.
Although not required, students and other community members may opt to wear a mask as they see fit and masks will continue to be offered upon request. Testing is also available to students, faculty, and staff upon demand, but requires registration to enroll in Primary Health (CDHP) to authorize the Grove School to administer tests. Caregivers can enroll students for testing upon demand by completing the online registration process. Full details are available on the Grove School’s testing protocols.
Recommended Actions for those exhibiting signs of illness:
In most situations, any student who develops new, unexplained symptoms should not return to campus until it is clear that symptoms are mild and improving or are due to a non-infectious cause (e.g., allergies). This includes waiting until 24 hours have passed since resolution of fever without the use of fever-reducing medications. Additionally, if symptoms are concerning for COVID-19, it is strongly recommended that students wear a mask and get tested immediately. Students should also follow CDPH recommendations for retesting and/or isolating if results are positive.
Persons Who SHOULD Isolate:
Persons Who Test Positive for COVID-19 – EVERYONE, regardless of vaccination status, previous infection or lack of symptoms should isolate if they test positive for COVID-19.
Recommended Actions for those who test positive for COVID-19:
Stay home (PDF) for at least 5 days after start of symptoms (or after date of first positive test if no symptoms).
Isolation can end after Day 5 if symptoms are not present or are resolving and a diagnostic specimen* collected on Day 5 or later tests negative.
If unable to test, choosing not to test, or testing positive on Day 5 (or later), isolation can end after Day 10 if fever-free for 24 hours without the use of fever-reducing medications.
If fever is present, isolation should be continued until 24 hours after fever resolves.
If symptoms, other than fever, are not resolving, continue to isolate until symptoms are resolving or until after Day 10. If symptoms are severe, or if the infected person is at high risk of serious disease, or if they have questions concerning care, infected persons should contact their healthcare provider for available treatments.
Per CDPH masking guidance, infected persons should wear a well-fitting mask around others for a total of 10 days, especially in indoor settings (see masking section below for additional information).
Asymptomatic Persons Who are Exposed to Someone with COVID-19 (No Quarantine) – This includes EVERYONE exposed to someone with COVID-19, regardless of vaccination status. Persons infected within the prior 90 days do not need to be tested, quarantined, or excluded from work unless symptoms develop.
Recommended Actions for those who have been expose to a person who has COVID-19:
Test within 3-5 days after last exposure.
Per CDPH masking guidance, close contacts should wear a well-fitting mask around others for a total of 10 days, especially in indoor settings and when near those at higher risk for severe COVID-19 disease (see masking section below for additional information).
Strongly encouraged to get vaccinated or boosted.
If symptoms develop, test and stay home (see earlier section on symptomatic persons), AND
If test result is positive, follow isolation recommendations above.
The updated guidance includes information on COVID mitigation strategies that K-12 schools can use to keep their students, staff, and communities safe in the upcoming school year. As noted in the Preamble:
“This guidance is intended to support safe, in-person learning in K-12 schools and mitigate the spread of COVID-19. Disease management strategies in K-12 schools are guided by the principle that safe, in-person learning is critical to student well-being and development.
COVID-19 is here to stay, but we have learned methods and gained tools to decrease its impact on our health and well-being. California’s schools can manage this disease in sustainable and adaptive manners. In alignment with the state’s SMARTER plan, California will continue to provide resources—including COVID-19 tests and personal protective equipment—to support these goals and prevent broad disruption to in-person learning.”
